UPDATE — The Middletown High School student arrested with a loaded gun Tuesday is 15 years old, and State Police say the warning signs started the day before.
State Police released the full account today. On Monday, he allegedly displayed a knife from a crossbody bag and made threats; a concerned parent reported it to the school.
Tuesday around 10:40 a.m., the school resource officer and staff took him into an empty classroom. Police say he resisted; in the struggle, staff secured his bags — a loaded 9mm handgun and a 4-inch knife inside.
He faces six charges — five of them felonies, including possession of a firearm in a safe school zone — and was committed to juvenile detention on $70,100 cash bond. His name is withheld; Delaware law protects a juvenile's identity. Charges are allegations.
No one was injured. A parent's phone call stopped this at the door.
