UPDATE: A SUSPECT, ACCORDING TO ONE PAPER — READ THE LABEL

Fri Oct 23, 2026, 09:49 AM EDT · 403 words

When we first told you about the man in the field behind the Delancy Village townhouses, we closed with a promise: police hadn't announced any suspects, and when they did, we'd tell you. This morning there's movement — but it comes with a label on it, and we want you to read the label before you read the news.

First, what we know, because it's verified and it hasn't changed. In the early hours of Friday, October 16, Keeran Angol, 29, of New Castle, Delaware, was found shot in the open field behind the 100 block of Danford Drive in Elkton, Maryland. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Whoever shot him ran — on foot, police believe, through the back of the neighborhood toward Buckhill Farms and Thompson Estates — and Elkton police are still asking everyone over there to check their cameras for anything between 4:45 and 6:00 that morning.

Now the part with the label. According to the Cecil Daily, in a story published October 22 — and right now, they are the only outlet reporting this — Elkton Police Department investigators have identified a suspect in the shooting. No name has been released. No arrest has been announced. And we have not verified it ourselves: there is no Elkton police release saying it, and no second outlet backing it up, so we don't know if it's true.

We're passing it along anyway, wearing its label, because this is the case so many of you have followed since the morning it happened — and if it's true, it's the first real break in a week of silence. The moment Elkton PD confirms it, or a second source reports it, we'll tell you that too. And if it turns out to be wrong, we'll tell you that just as loud.

Keeran Angol crossed a state line and didn't come home. Somebody's family is still waiting on a name that isn't his — the name of the person who did this. If you know something, or your camera saw something that Friday morning: Sgt. Andrew Tuer ([email protected]), Det. Anthony McGonigle ([email protected]), or the Elkton Police Criminal Investigations Division at (410) 398-4200.
