🌊 The Pacific is cooking up a Super El Niño — and NOAA says there's an 83% chance it becomes the strongest since record-keeping began in 1950.
Super Typhoon In-Fa blasted past the Northern Mariana Islands on Saturday at Category 4 strength — the SEVENTH super typhoon to form in the western Pacific this year, in an ocean basin supercharged by El Niño's warming waters. Temperatures in the central Pacific ran more than 2 degrees Celsius above normal in September — Super El Niño territory.
For perspective: the most super typhoons ever in a single year is 11 — in 1997 and 1965, both Super El Niño years. Guam and the Northern Marianas have already taken impacts from six tropical systems in 2026.
