The "free inspection" that wasn't free.

The "free inspection" that wasn't free.

Delaware's Department of Justice has filed a fraud complaint against Mastercraft Contracting LLC and two men behind it — Majid Sefiane, aka Michael Strong, and David Caprario.

The state's version: reps went door to door offering free inspections. The form homeowners signed was, per the complaint, actually a binding sales contract with punishing cancellation penalties buried in it. Try to back out, and the threats came: liens and lawsuits. It also claimed BBB accreditation the state says it didn't have.

Delaware courts have already tossed several of the company's own suits against homeowners — the penalty clauses were ruled unenforceable.

Allegations, not a verdict. The state wants penalties, money back for homeowners, and the practices stopped.

Signed a "free inspection" form at your door? Read it again. That signature may be a contract.
