The Eagles have now lost five straight games — and the team that walked off the field Monday night looked farther from a turnaround than the score alone can explain.
Dallas beat Philadelphia 38–21 at Lincoln Financial Field, dropping the Eagles to 2–5. It is their first five-game losing streak since 2016. The Cowboys outgained the Eagles 416–321 and scored 18 unanswered points after trailing 21–20 in the third quarter.
Saquon Barkley was back after missing two games with a hamstring injury, but his return went sideways almost immediately. He tweaked the hamstring on his first carry, a 29-yard run, and hurt his back while compensating. Philadelphia announced him as questionable to return with the back injury during the fourth quarter.
Barkley still finished with seven carries for 62 yards and a touchdown, plus two catches for nine yards. Afterward, he sounded like a player running out of answers: “I don't get it. I just have to find a way to get healthy.”
Jalen Hurts was already gone. The Eagles announced on October 19 that Hurts had been diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli. He is taking blood thinners and cannot take part in contact activity during treatment. The team says he is likely out for the rest of the season, while also saying his prognosis is very good and a full recovery is expected.
At 2–5, with Hurts likely sidelined and Barkley hurt again in his first game back, Philadelphia's season has narrowed to almost no margin at all.
