Somebody in the 1970s walked into the wettest room in the house, looked at the tub, the shower, and the toilet, and said: "You know what this room needs? WALL-TO-WALL CARPET." ๐
And this wasn't the cheap option. This was the UPGRADE. Carpet companies ran ads for it. Builders charged extra for it. Somewhere there was a salesman in a polyester suit explaining to your grandparents that tile was for poor people. ๐ธ
The toilet got its own matching outfit โ a rug cut into a little horseshoe to hug the base, a fuzzy cover for the lid, a fuzzy cover for the tank. The toilet was the best-dressed thing in the house. It owned a three-piece suit before your dad did. ๐คต๐
They carpeted right up to the tub. Some of them carpeted the SIDE of the tub. The tub. A thing that holds water for a living. ๐๐คฃ
Now do the math on what lands in bathroom carpet. Shower steam. Bath splashes. The overflow. And the fellas' aim โ and let's be honest, some of those fellas couldn't hit the bowl from inside the bowl. ๐คฃ Carpet catches all of it. Carpet files it away. Carpet keeps it FOREVER. There are bathroom carpets from 1976 that are technically still wet. ๐คข
Ask anybody who's ever ripped one out on a remodel. That's not a floor, that's an archaeological dig with a smell. Men who'll pull a transmission in February suddenly find religion when the bathroom carpet job comes up. ๐
So whose idea was it? We asked Google. Google blamed "corporate manufacturing innovations, tract-home builders, and interior designers." Fifty years, millions of bathrooms, and NOBODY will take the credit. The mob owns up to more than the carpet industry does. ๐ค๐คฃ
This photo is real, by the way โ wall-to-wall, right up to the tub, and the tub's already got a moving box in it. Even the tub is moving out. ๐ฆ๐
Who grew up with this crime scene? ๐ซฃ What color was yours โ avocado green, harvest gold, or the brown that hid a thousand sins? Fuzzy toilet seat cover too? Confess below. ๐
