Delaware State Police say somebody opened fire on a house in Georgetown on Sunday evening — and the people inside were home.
Troopers responded around 5:50 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, after unknown suspects fired multiple shots that struck the occupied home in the 18000 block of Hunting Club Road, according to the State Police release, posted Tuesday morning. By some mercy, nobody inside was hurt.
The release does not say what led up to the shooting, whether the home was targeted, or whether anyone is in custody — police have not said, and we won't guess. What is known is that the Troop 4 Criminal Investigations Unit is handling the case, and detectives are asking the neighborhood for help.
If you were anywhere near Hunting Club Road on Sunday evening and saw something that didn't belong — a vehicle, people on foot, anything — detectives want to hear it: Detective L. Coleman, (302) 752-3813, or Delaware Crime Stoppers, (800) 847-3333.
About the photo: there is no lawful photograph of the scene for us to publish, and we don't invent one. The photo at the top of this page is the Sussex County Courthouse on The Circle in Georgetown — the county seat, a few minutes from Hunting Club Road (via Wikimedia Commons).
