Seventy-one seconds. That's how long the good feeling lasted Friday night at Alumni Stadium.
Delaware State's MEAC opener started like a dream. Two snaps in, Jayden Sauray's pass was picked off, the return was fumbled, and Terrence Rone fell on it for the Hornets. One play later, Kyree Benton swept 26 yards around the edge for a 6-0 lead, and Dover was rocking.
Then North Carolina Central took over for good, running off 31 unanswered points behind freshman back Gino Addison — 31 carries, 214 yards and two second-half touchdowns, capped by a 16-play, eight-minute march to open the third quarter that broke the Hornets' back. Delaware State's offense never found its footing: 257 total yards, 1-for-8 on third down, three quarterbacks rotating through, and a late Marqui Adams keeper was all that followed Benton's opener.
The Hornets fall to 4-4 and 0-1 in the MEAC — their first home loss of the season, in a conference race with no room to sulk.
