SALISBURY — A Salisbury man is charged with burning down his own home — with his five cats inside. All five cats made it out alive.

Firefighters were called to the 6000 block of Hunters Mill Drive at 5:35 PM Saturday. Forty firefighters brought the one-alarm fire under control in about 30 minutes; damage is estimated at $175,000.

Maryland Deputy State Fire Marshals say the fire started in the attached garage and was intentionally set. Homeowner Michael Satterfield, 66, was served with an arrest warrant early Sunday. He is charged with first- and second-degree arson, malicious burning, threat of arson, reckless endangerment, and five counts of animal cruelty for the cats left inside — who were found unharmed. He is being held without bond.
