RETURN DAY IS THURSDAY IN GEORGETOWN — AND THE CIRCLE SHUTS DOWN AT 6 AM AND STAYS CLOSED ALL DAY
Sussex County, mark it down: Return Day is this Thursday, November 5, in Georgetown — and The Circle, the center of town, closes at 6:00 AM and doesn't reopen until 6:00 PM.
The Return Day Parade steps off at 1:30 PM Thursday. It's Delaware's one-of-a-kind tradition, held every other year after the election: the winners and the losers ride through town together and bury the hatchet to close out the campaign season. If you've never seen it, it's worth the trip.
It actually starts a day early. The Ox Roast is Wednesday, November 4, and The Circle closes at 4:00 PM Wednesday to get ready for it.
One warning, and it's a real one: there is no parking on the parade route starting at 6:00 AM Thursday, and Georgetown Police say violators will be towed. Don't let a good day end with your truck on a hook.
So plan your Thursday now. If your errands run through Georgetown, knock them out Wednesday or route around The Circle. And if you're headed to the parade, get there early, find your spot, and enjoy one of the best traditions in the 302.
