🌊 New Jersey's governor is asking Washington to declare the September nor'easter a federal disaster for the shore counties so many Delaware families vacation in.

Gov. Mikie Sherrill wrote President Trump on Oct. 26 requesting a major disaster declaration for Atlantic, Cape May and Monmouth counties. If granted, it unlocks FEMA grants to reimburse storm costs and fund projects that harden the coast against the next one.

The damage FEMA validated: $13.8 million in Cape May County, $8.5 million in Monmouth, $4.7 million in Atlantic. The late-September storm pushed two to three feet of floodwater through Atlantic City and shore-town homes and tore up the dunes — the same storm system that battered Delaware's beaches.
