He smashed the door, browsed for 40 minutes… then he took the axolotl.
THE GREAT AXOLOTL HEIST OF DOVER.

Some burglaries are about the money. This one, apparently, was about the fish.

On Sunday evening, Oct. 4, at about 8 p.m., somebody smashed the glass front door of Super Cichlids, the aquarium shop at 1055 Barl Court in Dover, and let himself in. He didn't rush. Dover police say he stayed inside for about 40 minutes — a full, unhurried browse — before leaving.

At first, the shop didn't think anything was missing. Then, on Oct. 9, the inventory count came in: items were gone. Including an axolotl — a type of aquatic salamander kept as a pet, for those of us who had to look that up too.

Three weeks later, police still haven't identified him. If you know something — or you've noticed a neighbor suddenly showing off a brand-new axolotl — Dover police would love to hear it: 302-736-7111. Tips can stay anonymous.
